The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of tools, techniques and processes to conduct threat modelling. Whether it’s a whole organisation or specific project, the role of threat modelling is to provide clarity to stakeholders’ around the level of and assist in control prioritisation. This ensures that resources can be effectively applied to projects and that priority information security requirements are established, including ongoing security requirements.

Learning Outcomes

Who Should Attend
This course is designed to enable new entrants and seasoned veterans to employ threat modelling to evaluate threats relative to their environment.
Pre-requisites: Students should have a basic understanding of cyber security and associated technologies.
Workshop Trainer
This workshop will be delivered by Edward Farrell.
Edward Farrell is a cyber security consultant with over fifteen years experience in cyber security and nineteen years experience in the IT industry. As the director of Mercury, he has conducted and overseen the delivery of over 1000 independent cyber security audit activities and incident responses in the past eight years.
Edward is also a qualified CERT IV trainer and assessor and member of the ISC2 global board of directors.
Workshop Content
Vital Learning Edge’s 1-day Intro to Threat Modelling Workshop will cover the following module content:
Introduction to threat modelling
- Overview of threat modelling, its history and uses
- Discussion of threat models employed within industry
- Introduction to a threat model developed specifically for Australian entities
- Unclassified brief on established threats and threat communities incorporating active discussion amongst the participants
Conduct of Threat Modelling
- Delivery of an interactive session of threat modeling
- Development of a mind map of a target environment or project
- Mapping of threats to target environments and scenarios
- Introduction of requisite product and next steps for threat modelling.
